A need-cum-merit scholarship established in 1976 for young Indians of exceptional talent, character and motivation, supporting full-time master's, MPhil and doctoral study in the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe. The Foundation has backed more than 1,400 individuals and marks its fiftieth anniversary in 2026. Applicants must already hold a valid or deferred offer from an eligible overseas institution when they apply. The annual cycle typically opens in February and closes in March, with preliminary online interviews in May, final interviews in Mumbai in late May or early June, and results around July. Alongside the main scholarships the Foundation runs awards, fellowships, art residencies, internships and grants, both overseas and within India.
