The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory - the NRF national facility that operates the MeerKAT telescope and hosts South Africa's share of the Square Kilometre Array - funds students at every level from undergraduate through postdoctoral. Streams include freestanding undergraduate scholarships and university block grants, honours, master's and doctoral scholarships, postdoctoral fellowships, a dedicated engineering technology stream at diploma and bachelor level, and a scholarship route at Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley, near the Karoo telescope site. Awards cover radio astronomy and astrophysics alongside the engineering and computing disciplines that build and operate the instruments. The NRF-SARAO master's and doctoral calls open and close earlier in the year than the general NRF postgraduate call.
